Libya Accused Gadhafi Loyalty

Libya's Deputy Interior Minister Sharif Wanis in Benghazi, in a press conference broadcast live on Al Jazeera television on Wednesday (12/09/2012), accused loyalists of former Libyan leader, Moammar Gaddafi, kill the U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher J Stevens and three U.S. consulate officials in Benghazi.

Two of the three U.S. officials who were killed are members of the Marines. Another man identified as a U.S. State Department Sean Smith, a member of the U.S. Consulate Information Management Staff.

At least 18 U.S. personnel and local security forces were wounded in the attack. A total of 35 U.S. consulate employee reported have been evacuated from Benghazi to Tripoli.

Sharif said, the U.S. Ambassador's murder could be in response to the extradition of Libya's intelligence chief during Moammar Gadhafi, Abdullah Sanusi, from Mauritania to Libya last week.

There are conflicting news about the death of the U.S. ambassador. The Government of Libya said Libyan ambassador died of asphyxiation of fire in the office of the U.S. Consulate following a mob attack on the consulate's office.

However, other news, as quoted by Al Jazeera television, Stevens and three U.S. citizens were killed in a shootout at a place near the U.S. Consulate after about two hours of the U.S. ambassador and consulate employees were evacuated from the consulate, following a demonstration at the office consulate on Tuesday night.

At the same time, hundreds of people in Egypt also attacked the U.S. Embassy building in the district of Garden City, Cairo. Mass raging in Cairo and Benghazi against the U.S. representative office is the protest over the film in the U.S. today are considered blasphemous Prophet Muhammad.
