A 24-year-old construction worker miraculously survived after a metal rod measuring 6 feet, fell from the top and through his head.
Luiz Alexandre Essinger, chief of staff to Miguel Couto hospital in Rio de Janeiro, said the doctors managed to pull out an iron rod from Eduardo Leite skull in an operation that lasted for five hours.
"He was taken to the operating room, his skull was opened, they then checked his brain, and surgeons decided to pull the metal rod from the front, in the same direction with the metal cutting through his brain."Obvious Essinger.
He said that when he arrived at the hospital, Leite still conscious.
"Right now he is in good condition, despite complaining of a long operation. He said did not feel sick at all, "Essinger said.
Known, an iron rod fell from the fifth floor of a building under construction, penetrating Leite helmet and broke into the back of his skull and out between his eyes. Essinger said that said that was really a miracle that Leite survived from this horrible accident.
Both accidents and surgery to Leite occurred on Wednesday (15/08).
Ruy Monteiro, head of neurosurgery hospital, told the Globo TV network that Leite had escaped only a few centimeters from the loss of one eye and paralyzed on his left side.
