Junk Food's Evil For Your Brain

Busyness is often used as an excuse to give junk food to children. In fact, it's not junk food may backfire for the parents as it related to child health problems later.

Simply put, if viewed from the nutritional value, junk food does not contain a lot of nutrients for the growing needs of children. On the contrary, a lot of junk food mentioned adversely affect the growth and health of children.

From the results of research conducted recently, researchers from the University of Adelaide, found that children who were given intake of junk food will grow into a child who is less intelligent.

Mentioned researchers, at the age of eight years old, children who frequently eat junk food has an IQ two points lower than their counterparts who ate healthy foods.

"The difference of IQ is not great, but this study provides strong evidence that states that the diet of children aged 6-24 months have a significant impact on IQ at age 8 years," Dr Lisa Smithers said. Smithers and a team of other researchers see a connection between eating habits children ages 6 months, 15 months, and two years with IQ at age 8.

To see the connection between the effects of junk food on the ability of the child's brain, researchers investigated 7000 children with a variety of diets, including traditional and contemporary homemade baby food, instant baby food, dairy and junk food.

From the results, it appears that children who eat junk food regularly, eating candy, chocolate and soft drinks in the first two years of life they would have up to two IQ points lower at age eight.

"Food provides the nutrients needed for the growth of brain tissue in the first two years of life, and the purpose of this study was to look at the impact of diet on the IQ of children," said Smithers. (Dailymail)
