Expected, the iPhone 5 screen will comes with a thinner size than before. Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is using In-Cell technology on its new devices. This is apparently intended that the size of the iPhone 5 may be made thinner and lighter.

According to the WSJ, the production stage to the the screen in progress, and the screen is produced by the three leading companies such as Sharp LCD, Japan Display Inc.. and LG. In-Cell is a technology where the touchscreen sensor is incorporated into one with LCD panel.

Considering character of Apple who like to innovate and "thinning" the size of a product, it seems very likely that Apple will use this technology. As information, now technology on the smartphone screen consists of three layers of components on the screen: LCD panel, then the touchscreen sensor underneath, and Gorilla Glass on the top layer. If using In-Cell technology, it will only have 2 layers on the the screen as follows: Panel LCD and touchscreen sensor, later Gorilla Glass on the top layer. Of course the size of the iPhone will be a few mm thinner since joining the touchscreen sensor.
Based on the MacRumors news last April. An analyst at KGI Securities, Ming Chi Kuo said that if the size of the iPhone 5 will be 1.4 mm thinner (7.9 mm) than before (9.3 mm).
Ming said if Apple is using In-Cell technology in the iPhone 5, it will reduce the thickness of the handset as much as 0.5 mm. He added that there is a possibility if Apple will also attenuate the size of other components such as the size of the batteries that will be reduced 10% and reduced the size of 0.5 mm case because the use of metal materials.
